Interesting that yesterday the House passed Ron Paul’s “Audit the Fed” bill, and that my Democratic Rep. in the House who wants to be Senator, he voted for it. Auditing is a LOOONG way from Ending the Fed, which is the crucial first step to “breaking up the big banks” and turning them into competitive, reputation-sensitive, entities. (See Surowicki in the New Yorker on LIBOR scandal. Banks get rewarded, not punished, for lying. It is opposite the Gibson Gtr. scandal, taking down Malagasy ebony for elite guitars while Republicans cheer on the destruction.)
Bi-partisan reform impulses always come too little too late?
